Murasaki sweet potato fries are so underrated. Honestly, if they’re prepared correctly, they taste better than regular sweet potato fries. I’m undecided on if they’re better than regular fries though. I like to top my Japanese sweet potatoes with peanut butter, yogurt, granola, and dark chocolate chips, that’s my favorite way to eat them. These Air-Fryer Cajun Sweet Potato Fries are my new obsession. If I could eat these daily, I totally would.
Although, this recipe isn’t sweet – which is my preference for sweet potatoes in general, this recipe is delicious. I achieved crispy fries by placing them in my air fryer. I dried the sweet potato with a paper towel after rinsing and then drizzled with avocado oil before placing into the air fryer. Drying your fries before placing them into a skillet, oven, or an air fryer is important to achieve the crispest fries.
The air fryer that I use for all of my air fryer recipes is the Bella air fryer. I love this air fryer because I didn’t spend too much money on it and it cooks everything really quickly. The air fryer makes the healthiest crispy fries. It’s the best way to consume “fried” foods, in my opinion.
How to make air-fryer cajun sweet potato fries:
To achieve the best air-fryer cajun sweet potato fries, start by rinsing and drying off the sweet potato. I like to rinse my potatoes a total of two times and then dry them thoroughly with a paper towel. After drying the sweet potato fries, cover them in avocado oil and cajun seasoning. Do not add the salt yet. I have learned that you should salt your fries AFTER cooking them. This just makes sure the fries get extra crispy.
After rinsing and drying your sweet potato fries, preheat your Air-Fryer for at least 10 minutes on 400 degrees F. I like to preheat my air fryer before placing the food in it to make sure that the food cooks faster. Some people place the food in the air fryer and let it heat as it goes. It’s ultimately up to you!
How to make a healthy tahini sauce:
I love this tahini sauce so much. It pairs perfectly with these sweet potato fries. At this local Mediterranean-Greek fusion restaurant that I go to sometimes, they serve this garlicky tahini sauce that I love so much on top of their chicken shawarma. I didn’t know what seasonings they used in their sauce. Honestly, I didn’t even think of that sauce when I made this sauce. I just threw a bunch of ingredients into my food processor.
I used Trader Joe’s Tahini with lemon juice, garlic cloves, za’atar seasoning, black pepper, salt, and water. This combination is amazing. You can taste every single ingredient. It’s not overwhelming, there’s not too much of one ingredient either. And best of all, it’s going to taste good on everything. Except a dessert, of course.
